Board up les windows, Montreal.
Guns n Roses are heading back to town — sort of.
For the first time since inciting a riot back in 1992, Axl Rose is scheduled to take the stage at the Bell Centre on Jan. 27 as part of a 13-city Canadian tour. The word “scheduled” was chosen carefully, given the way things ended up last time.
A lot has changed in 17 years — although GNR has released just one new studio album in that time. Rose is pretty much flying solo these days, leading many to denounce his current lineup as something of a fraud. He’s also likely a bit hard up for cash, though it’s probably wishful thinking to expect that as his funds have dwindled, his humility has increased proportionally.
“I doubt it’s going to be a good show,” said Philippe Renaud, music critic for La Presse, in a story in Canada’s National Post. “But Axl Rose will make sure to be there. He’s getting old, and he needs the money.”
