Canadian’s ‘Bad Day’ Ruled the Decade

Daniel_Powter595Daniel Powter might have had a bad day, but it made for a good decade.

Billboard named Powter’s “Bad Day” as the one-hit wonder of the decade, topping Terror Squad’s “Lean Back” and Crazy Town’s “Butterfly,” among others.

The 38-year-old Vernon, B.C., native had a smash hit with “Bad Day,” which topped the charts all over the place and made him the first solo Canadian male artist to top Billboard’s Hot 100 since Bryan Adams did it in 1995. It was also Billboard’s Single of the Year in 2006.

Billboard describes a one-hit wonder as an act whose second hit did not reach the top 25. For this list, they only included acts from 2000 to 2007, since someone from last year might just be taking a break, according to the AP.

Any fan of “American Idol” is already humming the sad-but-uplifting tune, which was played over the montage each week when singers were voted off during the show’s fifth season.
