Vancouver's Reynolds has called it quits with GQ's "Babe of the Year" after two years.

Not since the Avro Arrow has Canada been rocked by bad decision making of such epic proportions.

Vancouver’s Ryan Reynolds is divorcing Scarlett Johansson.

That’s right. The unequivocally hottest household on Earth (He was just named People’s Sexiest Man Alive and she was GQ’s “Babe of the Year”) is no longer.

Indeed, it appears Alanis Morissette once again gets the last laugh. Her first big breakup resulted in a massive breakout album and a bunch of Grammys. And after watching Reynolds run off to one of the most beautiful woman in the land, Morissette is decorating her baby-to-be’s nursery while his marriage falls apart.

The couple put out a joint statement through a rep, who said:

“After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we’ve decided to end our marriage. We entered our relationship with love and it’s with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn’t expected, it’s certainly appreciated.”

The beloved comedic and dramatic actor was being treated for pneumonia.

Beloved Canadian actor Leslie Nielsen has died at 84 from complications due to pneumonia, according to various news reports.

Nielsen, who was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, but was raised in the Northwest Territories, might be best known for his spoof comedies that started with “Airplane” in 1980 and continued with “The Naked Gun” series as well as other oddball comedies. These earned him the nickname “the Olivier of Spoof,” as Roger Ebert once pegged him.

Nielsen’s signature timing and double entendres were unforgettable and he’ll be sorely missed. According to Wikipedia, work had begun on a fourth installment of “The Naked Gun,” which was supposed to be released in 2012. Nielsen told the BBC in May that he’s “heard about” plans for the fourth film in the franchise but that he was “not involved in it.”

Nielsen began acting in the 1950s and has more dramatic roles in “Forbidden Planet” and “The Poseidon Adventure” before turning to comedy.

He remained active until very recently, performing on stage and voicing animated characters.

“I’m afraid if I don’t keep moving, they’re going to catch me … I am 81 years old and I want to see what’s around the corner, and I don’t see any reason in the world not to keep working,” Nielsen told the Vancouver Sun in 2007 (according to Wikipedia). “But I am starting to value my down time a great deal because I am realizing there might be other things to do that I am overlooking.”

Here are a couple of our favorite Nielsen moments:

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Joey Votto today became the third Canadian to named Most Valuable Player by claiming the prize for the National League after batting .324 with 37 home runs and 113 RBI. He ranked fourth or better in each of those categories, and ended the reight of the St. Louis Cardinals’ Albert Pujols, who’s won the award the past two seasons and in three of the past five.

The Etobicoke, Ont., native also became the first Canadian to win the National League’s Hank Aaron Award, which goes to the league’s top hitter as voted on by fans and the media. That award has been given out since 1999.

Larry Walker was the first Canadian to win an MVP award, in 1997 as a member of the Colorado Rockies. Justin Morneau won is in 2006 with the Minnesota Twins.

From Stratford, Ont., to the top of the music world, Justin brought Bieber Fever to the AMAs.

Oh, yeah… in case you missed it, Stratford, Ontario’s own Justin Bieber sorta owned the American Music Awards on Sunday night, taking home several awards, including the night’s top honor: Entertainer of the Year.

It was, like, Bieber, Bieber, Bieber, ooooh…

He claimed all four awards for which he was nominated, including entertainer of the year, breakthrough artist of the year, favorite pop/rock male and favorite pop/rock album for “My World 2.0.”

Usher, who actually lost to Bieber for two awards, including Entertainer of the Year, didn’t seem too unhappy with the result, saying backstage, according to the AP, “”To see Justin take the award — having received that award before — it was like an out of body experience, you understand? It was emotional. I don’t cry that often, but I did. Hopefully it gives an indication of how hard we worked to build a career that hopefully will flourish and blossom over the years.”

Here’s a look at Bieber’s acceptance speech:

We thought long and hard (no pun intended, but now that you mention it…) about whether to class it up today and offer up Cobie Smulders’ insightful and informative interview with Vulture, New York Magazine’s awesome blog, or whether to serve up the behind-the-scenes video from her Maxim magazine photo shoot.

We hope you’ll appreciate the choice we made. We’ll get you that Vulture interview tomorrow.

*** Click here to see Cobie’s Maxim photo shoot ***

In the interview, Cobie’s Canadian roots are brought up immediately as the interviewer asks her to insult them.

“I don’t know if a Canadian would do that!” she says.

C’mon! If there were a gun to a Canadian’s head…
First of all, if it were a Canadian, it would be a shotgun, because we have very few handguns. Second of all, I think the word “hoser” would be used, but the Canadian would have to drink lots of beer to slip up like that.

Mmm…beer. What’s your favorite Canadian brew?
I love Moosehead. Yes, that’s a beer!

The Vancouver native takes home the magazine's annual title, joining guys like Clooney and Pitt.

It took 25 years, but People’s Sexiest Man Alive title has finally made it north of the border.

Ryan Reynolds, the easy-going guy we’ve known and loved for several years, takes the title for 2010, joining such icons as Richard Gere, George Clooney and Brad Pitt in the exclusive club of winners since the magazine first started the special issue in 1985.

The magazine says it could be 34-year-old Reynolds’ self-deprecating humor that makes him so appealing, quoting him as responding to the award by saying, “You just have to go with the flow. This gives my family entrée into teasing me for the rest of my life.”

It should be noted that Ryan is now part of what can objectively be called the hottest household on Earth, as GQ this week named his wife Scarlett Johansson the “Babe of the Year.”
