America’s favorite “Idol” — OK, at least one of its two favorites — is moving to Canada.
Carrie Underwood is making the expected move north after marrying her beau Mike Fisher of the Ottawa Senators. According to Us Magazine, Mike and Carrie are building a dream home in Canada and a source tells them it should be done next month.
That’s all fine and good, but the last bit of the report was what struck me. Carrie officially changed her last name to Fisher after the wedding. Now, just stop for a moment and wonder whether you know any famous Carrie Fishers.
It looks like America’s sweetheart could be moving north.
Carrie Underwood’s new hubby Mike Fisher told reporters this week that Ottawa seems like a fine place to settle down.
“I love it here in Ottawa. She likes it, she knows how much I like it and I want to stay here my whole career if possible,” he said, according to CTV. “And it won’t be just up to me, it will be up to the team too after my contract is up.
“We’re both comfortable here. Home is where we are, so let’s make this home.”
Fisher went on to talk at length about their wedding, honeymoon and what his new life in the paparazzi’s spotlight has been like.

The “American Idol” and the Canadian hockey star are getting married.
Carrie Underwood’s spokeswoman and her hockey beau himself confirmed the engagement after about a year of dating.
“I’m happy to confirm that Carrie Underwood is engaged to Mike Fisher, and the couple couldn’t be happier,” Underwood’s rep told Us magazine. “No wedding date has been set at this time.”
Mike Fisher, a center for the Ottawa Senators, confirmed it himself for the Ottawa Sun, saying, “It’s true. We’re both obviously excited and very happy. I’m not sure exactly when (the wedding will take place).”
Fisher’s friends and teammates were happy for him, and giving him a hard time almost immediately.
“It’s great. It’s a long time coming. There’s going to be a lot of broken hearts here in Ottawa with all those girls that are in love with Mikey,” Senators winger Chris Neil told the Sun. “He’s met an awesome girl. We’re ecstatic for him.”
Underwood, was erroneously reported to have been moving in with Fisher earlier this year, tells Self magazine in next month’s issue that she’d love to have a small family.
“Not that I have a husband to have one with yet, but someday I’d like a family — not a big one, but not a small one either,” she told the magazine. “Two kids is good, three is fine. Four? Somebody’s getting something done, because we ain’t having five!”

The couple has been dating for more than a year and Carrie took the step of publicly acknowledging her love of the Senators center in the liner notes, where she wrote, ”Thank you #12. You are the most amazing addition to my life! You are such a wonderful person and have had such an amazing hand in the building of this album and in the growth of me as a person. I love you so much! You make my life better in every way! I thank God for you every day.”
Now, an unnamed source tells OK! magazine that Fisher “asked her to move in, and she said yes… She’s on the road a lot and can’t commit fully, but she did clear out space in his closet and stock his kitchen with her favorites.”
The source also says there’s been talk of marriage.
Carrie has tested the pro athlete waters before, having been linking to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo back in 2007. She had mostly gone on record as saying they were friends, but Romo confirmed on his Web site that they were dating.
Last week, Carrie acknowledged her relationship with Fisher on “Live with Regis & Kelly,” but didn’t seem to want to go into much detail. She did say she’s learning the rules of hockey and that she gets nervous when players she knows are involved in fights on the ice.
