Carrie Underwood is changing her name and her home address. Get the scoop.

America’s favorite “Idol” — OK, at least one of its two favorites — is moving to Canada.

Carrie Underwood is making the expected move north after marrying her beau Mike Fisher of the Ottawa Senators. According to Us Magazine, Mike and Carrie are building a dream home in Canada and a source tells them it should be done next month.

That’s all fine and good, but the last bit of the report was what struck me. Carrie officially changed her last name to Fisher after the wedding. Now, just stop for a moment and wonder whether you know any famous Carrie Fishers.

Is it the ultimate homage to Princess Lea?

Carrie Underwood’s new hubby Mike Fisher told reporters this week that Ottawa seems like a fine place to settle down.

“I love it here in Ottawa. She likes it, she knows how much I like it and I want to stay here my whole career if possible,” he said, according to CTV. “And it won’t be just up to me, it will be up to the team too after my contract is up.

“We’re both comfortable here. Home is where we are, so let’s make this home.”

Fisher went on to talk at length about their wedding, honeymoon and what his new life in the paparazzi’s spotlight has been like.

Check out the full interview here.

We here at Canadian of the Week might have fallen a bit behind on our one-time promise to resurface the classic Canadian Heritage Minutes, but we still love them.

And it appears we’re not alone. “Scara,” the venerable founder and editor of GhoulsonFilm.net and good friend of Canadian of the Week, ran into Seth Rogen’s longtime buddy and co-writer Evan Goldberg, who beamed with excitement at the mention of CanadianoftheWeek.com and our mutual love of the renowned Heritage Minutes.

“I contacted the government and asked if we could make new ones like three years ago,” Evan said. “Me, Michael Cera and Seth wanted to go up there and make new ones. We wanted to do part of our future heritage and try to do a thing where we get like Pamela Anderson, Jim Carrey, Mike Myers and Seth and Michael Cera — just get, like, every famous Canadian we can to do something like that. I’m still kind of into doing it.”

Scara and her morbid mind went straight to Dr. Wilder Penfield’s infamous “I smell burnt toast” bit.

“Burnt toast! Burnt toast?” Evan repeated. “I lived on Penfield Drive in Montreal. I lived outside the building of the man who came up with that. We’ve got a Chinese railroad worker episode … there’s more, burnt toast, the hockey mask one. Ah, those are the best.”

Yes, Evan. They are.

Reports say 41 people were arrested in the revelry and debauchery that ensued after the Montreal Canadiens knocked off the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 7 to move on to the Eastern Conference Finals and one step closer to the Stanley Cup.

Based on the video below, though, it looks like most of the Montreal faithful were simply out to celebrate a good time. Well, maybe except for the guy stripping on a street pole, but the cops took care of him.

Check it out and try to tune out the annoying music…

San Jose Shark Dan Boyle took a bite out of his own team’s playoff run on Sunday night when he scored the only goal of their game against the Colorado Avalanche in overtime.

Trouble was, the goal went into his own net.

The 33-year-old defenseman from Ottawa was on the wrong end of a total fluke when he tried to clear the puck behind the net and instead shot it past his own goalie Evgeni Nabokov, giving the Avs a 1-0 win less than a minute into overtime after neither team scored in 60 minutes of regulation.

Here’s the play, followed by Boyle’s own words after the game, in which he called it “pretty much the worst thing that can happen.”

It’s been over a week, but the ripple effect of Canada’s winter Olympic gold-medal victory over the United States in Men’s Hockey still has people buzzing, and today one of the more entertaining stories surfaced.

The president of Air Canada said a plane that was bound from Vancouver to Montreal sat on the tarmac the afternoon of the big game because several passengers refused to get on board — they were watching the game on TV screens in the airport.

He didn’t say how long the flight was delayed. Get the full story at CBC.ca.

In what was the most watched sporting event in Canadian history, the U.S. delivered a shock.

The Great White North was ready for a party as its national hockey team faced off with its American rival on Olympic ice Sunday.

Alas, the Americans came through with an unlikely victory — and much of Canada watched it unfold before its eyes.

CTV says 10.6 million Canadians watched the contest, making it the most watched sports event in Canadian television history. http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/100222/entertainment/oly_tv_ratings

Here’s a little perspective for Americans, who may be thinking about the fact that 106 million people watched the Super Bowl a few weeks ago: Canada only had about 33 million people. That means about one-third of the nation was watching a qualifying round hockey game.

But what a disappointment it turned out to be.

The Canadians will have to work for another shot at the Stars & Stripes as they’ll now need to win a qualification match to get into the tournament bracket.

Canadians, it seems, tend to shoot left-handed with a split of as much as 70 to 30 percent. About 60 percent of American hockey players shoot right-handed, however, and this all comes despite the fact that there is little difference (outside of the world of hockey) between the percentage of people who are right- and left-handed in the two nations.

It’s a good read. Check it out here.

The singing sensation is set to co-star with Olivia Newton-John in 'Score: A Hockey Musical.'

A couple of weeks ago, we told you about Olivia Newton-John’s unlikely hockey connection as the Australian starlet has signed up to take part in “Score: A Hockey Musical.”

This bit of casting news makes a little more sense. WENN.com is reporting that Canadian Nelly Furtado is set to make her big-screen debut, playing a woman obsessed with the game, in the movie musical that is set to begin filming soon in Toronto.

Director Michael McGowan says, “Nelly is an incredible entertainer and, after speaking with her, I realized that she fully relished embracing her inner hockey fanatic.”
