Man Steamed About Tim Hortons Ban

A New Brunswick man has frittered away the privilege — it’s apparently not a right — to patronize Tim Hortons, and it’s the most talked about news in Canada today.

Jimmy Craig, a paramedic, was banned by the store’s owner after complaining too much about the quality of the coffee. He’s hired a lawyer to get the ban lifted, even though he admits that making coffee at home is cheaper and tastes better.

More than 1,500 comments were posted to the story on CBC.ca, four times the number of comments posted on the next most popular story of the day.

Most of the commenters are siding with the Tim Hortons owner, assuming that Craig did more than innocently complain.

“Having worked with customers for years, I will say that I’m familiar with all the ‘Mr Craig’s’ out there and actually applauded this Tim Horton’s owner for taking a stand against this man,” one wrote. “There should be more store owners doing this when customers are abusive toward their staff. There are some customers who will bully staff repeatedly in order to make themselves feel superior and that sounds like the situation here. The customer is always right? Ha!”

Go Canada!

A Pig in a Prank? Cops Unsure

TimHortons595This is why I love Canada.

An agriculture student at University of Guelph’s campus in Ridgetown, Ontario, left a baby pig in Tim Hortons restroom and, according to the CBC, the local police constable is “not sure if it was a prank or he legitimately left the pig inside and forgot about it.”

For those not in the know, Tim Hortons is Canada’s favorite donut shop and it’s tremendous.

And, by the way, why don’t we have constables?

An employee called the cops at 10:30 p.m. after a customer spotted the pig and held it until the police came. A late-night mission followed as the police woke up Dr. Paul Luimes, a swine specialist at the university, at midnight to see if the pig belonged to the school.

It didn’t, but Dr. Luimes hooked it up with accommodations for the evening while the real owner, an 18-year-old ag student, was found the next morning.

As if the story wasn’t good enough, check out some of the comments posted by CBC readers:

Maybe it was a student and he didn’t want to leave the pig in the car in a ‘No Porking Zone’”

“I know I have used the washroom at Tims and wondered what pig had used it last? That explains it.”

And the winner is… “Review of security camera footage showed Winnie the Pooh exiting the store with a large coffee and a dozen honey-dip doughnuts…”
